PERSONALITY:
Well. To be honest.
>.>
He is.. quite.. idiosyncratic.
Which is simply a fancy word for "quirky."
Ah, well, yes, young master Olivander Mason Jones is /quite/ the character. Few can really explain just how the word "quirky" ties into his persona, and yet it very clearly does fit the boy. He.. just.. does.. odd things. Do you know that song that goes a bit like, this: "Have you ever ever ever in your long-legged life seen a long-legged sailor and his long-legged wife?" That's pretty much it. Well. That's sort of like him, I guess. >.> While he is quite long-legged, Olivander is neither a sailor nor married. The closest thing is probably Professor Sullivan, who sometimes dresses like a sailor on various days. These are, naturally, Olly's favorite days.
He is simply his own person, and it shows. Not necessarily through his natural style, which is typically quite casual and relaxed, but more through his personality and the odd things he tends to do. This kid is zany. He's a screwball. A madcap, a wacky. But he's relatively harmless. Olivander is simply.. well, himself, and he is naturally a bit odd. He thinks outside of the box and conforms to nobody. This could be a good or bad personality trait - Olly has pissed some people off because of the outlandish way in which he thinks, and a prime example of this took place at his old school, which was a private school. He hated the single, narrow-mindedness of the central student body. Well, hated does not really constitute his feelings; Olivander is incapable of hatred.
He is, very much so, a kind person. Though he is often times blunt and apt to speak up for what he believes in, the guy's not flat and out rude about it. It is simply Olly's nature to be a good-hearted person; he enjoys the company of others and unlike most stereotypicalized "odd" people actually seeks human contact rather than shun it and choose to go throughout life as a recluse. Perhaps the boy's most prominent characteristic trait is his lovingness. Olly loves before getting to know someone, adores because of one little thing someone does before ever seeing who they really are, and cares about people before coming to know anything about their situation. In this way he is extremely judgmental, but in an entirely positive sense - Olly expects the best of people, and many times his ultimate thought of someone being as willing to love him as he is them has blown up in his face. He's not one to get his feelings hurt too easily, but he has to admit it can be somewhat disheartening. All the same, this attribute of his, this "pre-judgment of humankind" will likely never go away. Olly is.. innocently oblivious and somewhat stupid while at the same time not ignorant in the sense that he is kept behind closed eyes.
If that.. makes.. any sense.. at all.
What is meant is, when it comes to the world and living outside of a closed box, he's not oblivious in that sense. But when it comes to thinking people are as kind as he wants to believe they are, yes he can seem somewhat clueless.
Well, in any case, the teen is a highly open, friendly, and optimistic sort of person. The kind to see the glass as half-full as opposed to empty. To try and find the good in a situation that at first seems ultimately bad. He'll talk to anyone, never holding a grudge simply because he's heard "talk" about them or something of that nature. Nope, it's Olly's job to form an opinion and he's never biased or bases his own on anything he's "heard." In fact, people who talk about others behind their backs are probably his biggest pet peeve-inducers. But, well, sticking to the open-ness. Yes.. And he's not one to get frightened off easily, so even at a place like Delacroix where some of the members can seem a bit unnerving, Olly isn't really typically scared of nervous. In fact, it's a bit eerie how not nervous he is. Upon coming to this place for the first time, which was very recently, when asked his name, the boy promptly stood up, waltzed to the front of the classroom, and began spilling his whole life story.
>.>
<.<
-_-
I have the feeling he thinks everybody cares.
Ah, well, he's good at laughing it off, his own stupidity that is.
He just.. tutters it away.
Another thing worth mentioning is Olivander's "free spirit..ness." One of his heroes is that dude from Into the Wild because Olly wants to do that some day. He even says he doesn't mind dying from berries, because how many people can claim they've died from such? Not many, I'm sure. Or perhaps you just don't see it as much as more dramatic and blood-spilling deaths. In any case. He is a free spirit, in most senses. Olly isn't one to particularly value material objects, nor is he really tied down by anything. He sort of.. floats about life. Olivander Jones is one of those activist types of people; he can be exceptionally liberal when the time calls for it. He's an advocate for animal's rights and once made quite a scene when the anatomy class at his old school were dissecting baby pigs. It was.. such a scene; I don't even.. can't even.. shouldn't bring it up.. Regardless to say, Olly was pretty much.. banned from.. ever participating in a dissection again. :X
He really is a bit of an activist, and not just for animals' rights but peoples' as well. Olly is not necessarily wealthy or anything of the sort, but he does donate regularly to various organizations about the world as often as he can. He wants to help.. wants to make a difference, and it makes him very, very sad to know that out there people are suffering over seemingly small things, such as a lack of water, or food, or health. The most serious anyone has likely ever seen him be is during a time in which he's feeling heated and argumentative about something he feels passionately for. Olly would be a great.. professional debator, but I'm not sure they have those anymore these days. While not a vegetarian because he knows it's necessary for animals to eat other animals, Olivander would /never/ hunt, never take the life from something intentionally. He's that kid who avoids stepping on ants and doesn't even kill a cockroach upon spotting it. He'll just avoid spiders and the like, because, though they creep him out, he doesn't feel he has the right to kill anything.
Hmm.. what else to say about Olly Jones?
Well, the kid is very polite and well-mannered. Momma raised him right, or rather, his nanny did, and as considerate of animal life as Olivander is, he is also thoughtful to people. He's that person to hold open the door for someone, let them go first, say plz&thnku, and sneeze into the nook of his arm. O: O: O:
And then, he is.. very, quite, very, quite, very clumsy.
Yes.
Not much else to say on that; he is a major klutz. It could be because he's so.. long or.. just 'cause. I don't know.
And, finally. Idiotic. He says and does really stupid stuff sometimes.

HOMETOWN: Rockland, Maine, the US of A

FATHER: Morgan Jones - 52 - Optometrist [eye doctor]
SIBLINGS: None.
OTHER: Ms. Cara [his nanny who pretty much raised him, deceased]
PETS: Barko Marx - doggie. Click.
HISTORY:
He's from Maine.
He was born in Rockland, Maine, [though the parents met in Georgia, at Emory University] to a rather young couple, Mr. Morgan Jones and Karen Christian, a pair who had fallen for each other throughout their college years and ended up wed before Karen had finished going through nursing school. Ironically enough it was through medical school that the two met, Morgan going in to be an optometrist. I could never be an optometrist, I don't think, because eyes seriously gross me out. -shudder- In any case, yes, they met through their mutual love of medicine and wishing to help people. Though Morgan was a few years older than her, Karen found herself wanting him more and more, and during a party hosted by the Med. Department, the two had a bit to drink and ended up having quite a good time in the broom closet downstairs.
Er.
Well.
About a month later Karen found out she was with child. This discovery severely shocked the young woman's world; she had gone through the tiresome and painful years of medical school and was so close to being done.. And she was preggers with a future doctor's baby. Getting rid of the child was not an option, not to a woman whose life-calling it was to help keep others living and to see life flourish. At first she kept it from the man, but finally she had to tell him. She was so scared, for she had been concieved in an atmosphere revolving around medicine; her mother was a doctor and her father was a pharmacist. Karen's whole life had been such, and as an only child she had the wonderful benefit of both of her parents constantly down her throat all of the time.
On the other hand, Morgan had an older brother's footsteps to follow in, and consequently they led down the path of medical school. The male actually had always wanted to go into astronomy but that was a 'dreamer's field' and so there he went to Emory. Morgan was from Maine and had been sent to the same school as his brother the neurosurgeon, for Emory is one of the top leading medical schools in the world; Dr. Sanjay Gupta can clarify. <33 SHOUT-OUT TO JULES' INDIAN HUSBAND WHO FIXES PEOPLE'S BRAINS. O: O: O: And Karen was from Georgia and Emory was the only school on her list, really, so. There they went.
Ahem, well, in any case, yeah. >.> Karen eventually told Morgan and was prepared to allow him to forever be gone from her life, but instead the kind man did the exact opposite of what she had anticipated. He asked her to marry him. It was quite dramatic and romantic but it ended with her actually saying she didn't know. Karen knew Morgan was due for success.. and that he was just in the prime of his life, about to branch off and become what she thought he had always wanted to be. He was a few years ahead of her after all and was finishing up. This was when the male informed her that this path had pretty much already been forged for him and he had never felt in control of his own life. And that choosing her and their child as his family for the rest of his life was the first real decision he had ever made for himself.. and he was not about to let that go.
She mulled over it for a while, but by this time was beginning to show pregnancy. She realized she was going to have this baby.. and if she was, she wanted it to be with Morgan Jones.
So they were married.
Needless to say.. neither set of their academically driving parents approved.. but there was little they could do about it. The couple did finish school and Morgan went back to Maine, where he had signed contract to a clinic he would work at for a couple of years as an optometrist. Karen was unable to do much since she was pregnant, but after having the baby she was able to find work at a hospital in Maine as well, and they bought a house and a nanny to care for their child, whom was named "Olivander." Mason was Morgan's grandfather's name, the only member of his family who he seemed to really be able to get along with. Poor Olly, but Mason's not so bad. I believe it is the name of a certain something found in a jar.. So it can't be all that bad.
So. Yes. The parents were very busy, naturally. "Ms. Cara," which was what his folks addressed her as and so thus Olly did from a very young age, was his prime guardian and caretaker. She taught him everything, from letters and numbers to how to deal with women. She actually taught him this from a young age as well, so he would be well-equipped to start kindergarten. Little Olivander was always a rather.. unique child. He looked like a cross between his mother and father, but there was just something.. different about him. He was a rather hyper young thing, though he did not have AD/HD or ADD or anything like that. One day when his mother was in the kitchen getting ready to leave and Cara came in, she asked the woman what was wrong with Olivander.
Cara said, with a smile on her face, that he was simply a "happy" child, and that she had no doubts he would grow up to be one of the few truly "happy" people in the world. She knew his soul was just.. glad to be alive, and that he was one of those sorts of people who lived life to the fullest without even realizing it. His mom was like, "Okay, whatever." By this time she was quite stressed; it's understandable.
Olly never really saw much of his father, naturally. As a doctor, Morgan was always gone, and his schedule was never set. Karen managed to keep her own from keeping her away from her son during the night, but during the day she was off to the hospital to work until late into the evenings. Olly still remained cheerful, and when he started school was quite glad to do so. The name 'Olly' sprouted up when one of the children could not spell his name on the blackboard. It was the kid's turn to take role and he was like, seriously distressed over the word 'Olivander.' So he wrote down 'Olly.' =_= Olivander was like O:
And loved it.
I could go on in this fashion. But I won't.
The boy grew up, and as he did, Cara continued to teach him the ways of the world. That's about it. o,O He attended a private school in Maine, and it wasn't too fun, really. He longed for a chance to get away and just.. be free. His parents were quite strict on him, but he was okay. He loved the coast of Maine, and enjoyed his friends. He did naughty things, but they were innocent naughty things, like sneaking around at night. :X Olly just.. loved a laugh, really. And sneaking around in the darkness was exciting to him. He was very taken care of throughout his adolescence, obviously, but Olivander never really thought about that. He just.. liked to be alive.
Well. When he was seventeen [last year] his dad went to Europe for a mission trip to help the people in more poor areas with eye care, among other things. It wasn't that different to Olly, who rarely saw his dad anyway. Well, when Morgan came back, he declared that he needed to stay in Europe for at least eight more months. By this time, Olivander was a senior in school. It was the summer before senior year, rather. His parents were like, 'Well.. we could take him on his senior trip now' and he was like 'Okay.' So they all went up to Europe for his summer. When the summer ended and it was time to come back, his father remained behind.
His mother was really depressed without Morgan around. It got to the point in which she decided to apply for mission work in the same area as well; they could never use too many volunteers, after all. This was still the love of her life. She went and told Olivander this, and it was decided that the male would either need to attend another boarding school or stay with his nanny. What made the decision was when Cara became sick.. She was quite elderly by this time. She developed throat cancer and passed away. So it was boarding school tiemz!
However, young Olly was rather loath to go to that same private school... he really just didn't like it. >.> So his parents searched around and found... guess where. x) None of them know what it really is; they just think it's a normal boarding school, and thus so does Olly. He's only been living on the island for a short while but he likes it a lot! He was always the island type.
